Can Planning Actually Be Fun?
Yes, I am a person who plans, but that wasn’t always the case! I’ve always used a standard wall calendar and jotted to-do lists down here, there and everywhere, on any scrap of paper I can find. Until 2014 that is! In 2014 I found a community of amazing people who plan for functionality AND fun on Instagram.
What’s that I hear you say? Can planning actually be fun??? Well, yes, actually it really can! You can make it anything you want to be. Try typing in the hashtag #plannercommunity on Instagram and you will see exactly what I mean!
I’ll be honest; I’ve come full circle. I’ve tried many different planners and journals and styles of planning, but what works best for me as a busy Mum and blogger/creator, is a good family wall calendar and notebook to jot down my numerous to do lists everyday.
It works well for some people. I am not one of those. In a time when the majority of people have taken to planning digitally, I simply cannot make the switch. If I don’t physically write down what appointments are happening and who’s birthday is coming up then it simply ends up forgotten.
With three children, that obviously isn’t ideal. I’m sure I’m not the only one who finds digital planning easily forgotten…hidden away in an app on your phone…never to be checked again. I ignore alerts too. Yup, it simply doesn’t work for me…
So, I needed a better option!
Family Wall Planner Options
It has bothered me for some time, the lack of options for family wall calendars, especially the style. So how do you fix that? Well, you design your own!
I’m not new to designing calendars and printable planners, I used to have a small Etsy shop selling planner tidbits, but my heart wasn’t in it to work on it full time.
Free Farmhouse Style Family Wall Calendar
I designed this undated farmhouse style printable wall calendar and thought I’d share it as a free printable to my subscribers in the Resource Library. If you’d like a copy for yourself, plus many more freebies and farmhouse style weekly inspiration, fill out this form!
You will also receive all the latest news and freebies, right to your inbox and NO, I promise not to spam you, ever!
I really love this clean minimal style, which could be used in many home decor styles, not just farmhouse. Clean minimal home design, apartment therapy, hygge, scandinavian, plus many more that are not coming to mind right now.
How to Print/Hang
You can print the A3 or Tabloid sized versions at your local print shop for a small fee. I had mine printed at the local Officeworks for 80 cents each on 300gsm card stock and the print quality is far superior to my home printer.
I popped the PDF file onto a USB stick and the next time I was out running errands near the local Officeworks, I had them print me a few copies. It literally took a couple of minutes and I was on my way again (with two of my kids in tow!!).
You will need to have 12 printed for the year, obviously! Just thought I’d mention that, but you could also do six months at a time if you preferred.
Adding Relevant Info
Once printed, all you need to do is add the month at the top of each page, days to the relevant dates and your family names across the top. Now you’re ready to get planning your days and weeks ahead for the month!
I wrote out an example month here for an idea of how to utilise the columns. My months usually end up with a lot more on them than this and lots of crossed out/altered appointment dates, but I don’t mind, because it’s functional (which is the point!) and the overall monthly page is in style with my decor, unlike a lot of store bought calendars.
Each month you can simply remove the previous month and discard/recycle or place to the back of the stack and re-hang on your hook!
If the current month you’re in doesn’t have the full 31 days, just pop a line through that date!
